My daughter came home with a notice that another kid in her class has head lice. What. a.pain.in.my.tush. We have done the lice thing and because my daughter's hair is long and oh so thick it was near impossible to get rid of. This latest note they sent was by far the most informative so far. We will be doing this as a precaution:
1. Check every member of the family.
Lice are hardto spot, so look for tiny white eggs (nits) on hair shafts, near the scalp.
2. Use an effective head lice treatment.
Several are available without a prescription. NIX Creme Rinse is the only product that is proven 99% effective with just one treatment in killing lice and eggs and protecting from reinfestation for two weeks. **This is so true. I tried many home remedys and nothing was as effective. So unless you plan to treat the whole family on a near daily basis until it's gone, go with the good stuff in the stores.**
3. Remove all nits.
Gently comb the child's hair with the special nit removal comb. <>
4. Wash clothes, bed linens and towels.
Use hot water, then dry in the hot cycle for at least 20 minutes. Anything not machine washable (stuffed toys, hats, headphones, etc.) should be stored in a tightly sealed plastic bag for at least 2 weeks.
5. Soak combs and brushes in very hot water for at least 10 minutes.
6. Vacuum everywhere.
Vacuum carpets, pillows, upholstered furniture, even car seats.
